Boomhowler and Company

Some of you may remember by assembly guide for the Boomhowlers on HCO over a year ago: Boomhowler and Company.  The time finally came to get them painted.  First thing, however, I needed to fill the unit out to max, but due to the repackaging and popularity of Boomies, I couldn’t find the two blisters I would need.  So a bits order was made from PP, which I think ended up cheaper than the blisters would have been, or pretty close anyway. The primary support unit in most Troll lists, the Krielstone Bearer and Scribes are now painted.  As with all units they were kind of a drag to paint.  There is a surprising amount of detail on the scribes once you factor in all their scrolls and pouches and embossed leather armor. (more…)

Build up around the shoulder pin

Now that we’ve pinned, bent and glued the arms into their new positions we need to bulk up the area around the pins.  You want to just get the general shape filled in but you don’t need any detail and you want to make sure it’s all below what should be the finished level.  We’ll harden this bulked up layer which will make it easier to add on a thinner muscle layer that we can work on more easily than if the entire joint were soft. Repose of Madrak1: axe is no across his body

Madrak is such an interesting character: he aims to unite the Kriels, while being tied to an axe that will end the world. His prime incarnation has seen two sculpts, both of them awful, in my opinion. (more…)
